Mission Statement

"To use every available resource to set up a sustainable youth work in every congregation of Kigali diocese and to support our youth workers in their efforts, to impact young people of all walks of life for a lifelong walk with Christ."

Explanation of the main keywords found in our mission:

•    Every available resource: Resources can be human resources, talents, gifts and potentials,  finances, buildings or already existing work.
•    Resources in congregations: These can differ from one congregation to other. Although a  congregation can learn from others (Imitate ideas and forms) but it might have its particular  strengths. The youths are a resource themselves that we as the youth department can invest in. There are    different groups with various gifts and talents who also need to be guided in a way they can use  them effectively to serve the other youth and the church.
•    Sustainable: An expanding ministry that will be able to have long term fruits whereby the    impacted youth will be able to benefit the other young people around and the next generation. A  work that can continue even when the external support has stopped. A ministry that is able to grow from one congregation to more others according to the increase of its resources. Eg. People to investing in their own or other communities.
•    Youth work: This is an urgent and imperative ministry in the church of Rwanda, pertinent to current spiritual and social pressures that are taking the youth away from God yet the youth is the church of today and of tomorrow.
The youth is a part of the body of Christ and can play an important role in every aspect of church life. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every church member to play a part in youth work.
The word youth worker refers to anyone involved in youth work regardless of his age and responsibility.
•    Every congregation: It should be everyone’s aim to see youth work developing in the whole diocese with congregations inspiring and helping each other. The word of God asks us “to be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good.” (Hebrews 10:24) It also requires us “to encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
•     To impact young people: Teaching them both theoretically and practically in a way that will leave a positive impact on behaviors and beliefs which will accompany them for the rest of their lives. To leave them with decisions that will be applied to their daily lives and will benefit others.
•    All works of life: We aim at a work that is beneficial to every young people irrespective of their context. Youth work benefiting both educated and uneducated, rich and poor, …
•    Supporting churches: The Youth Department can provide additional service to help churches accomplish tasks that are too big for them. Such as training volunteers, youth leaders, special retreats, literature.
The youth department can also invest in special groups of people who will also play a significant role in the youth ministry of their churches.
